No lawn mower will take care of dandelions once and for all... You either need to spray them or dig them up. I bought a little weed popper and try to spend 10 or 15 minutes a week popping out the darn things. A friend gave me a tip to go back over the dirt circles where the plants used to be with grass seed and a handful of potting soil (so the birds don't eat the seed). That works marvelously in the spring and fall or during rainy seasons, but I don't see much point when I'm not watering the rest of the lawn right now...
Oh well. I love my yard too. What I did was decide on a few projects that I really wanted and start those. Put all your extra (ha!) energy into those projects the first year. Then, the next year, you can decide what else you want to do. Or that everything else can just be maintained the way it is... :-) Have fun!
