WANH!!!!!!!!!!
Mar. 31st, 2004 08:07 amI think my external hard drive just died... I just started noticing that the sound the drive made had changed recently, and was much louder. But not really different other than that. I thought it was the fan (thinking that extenal drives have fans because it always seems warm), so I picked it up and turned it on it's side. Sure enough, it became quieter. Then I put it down flat again and the noise got REALLY bad. Now it sounds like grinding and whining. I unplugged it thinking I'd let it cool down. But now when i plug it it, it sounds the same and my computer won't recognize it as a drive (XP says that a mass storage device is plugged in, but my computer won't see the drive!). So now I can't even back it up... This is my external dirve. The one that I store all my pictures on so that Micro$oft can't mess it up if Windows dies... So now it's messed up. I did a major backup last may, but haven't backed up ANY of my pictures since then!
So Iguess I'm waiting until Jeffrey can look at it, and then, I suppose I have to call support tomorrow. It has to be me cause Jeff's at work while they are open... Lucky the dirve is still under warrenty... Unlucky that they don't do info recovery. Of course their blurb about it talks about damage from misuse or extreme conditions. It's been sitting on my desk. Not doing anything else...
grumble, grumble, grumble...
What is it with all my friends seeming to have computer problems! it's a conspiricy, I tell you!
