Jul. 21st, 2005 10:18 pmThought y'all might want to know that I made it to Utah safe and I'm off and running! Grandma Chatfield picked me up and drove us down to Orem (south of Salt Lake). On the way, we stopped at a nummy mexican restaraunt called Mi Ranchitos... Yummy tostada! Waaaayyyy too much food. It's been more than 11 hours since we finished eating, and I only just started to feel hungry again! but it was really good!
Then, after a brief settling at Grandma's house, I made sure that the root beer bottles I packed for one of my BYU profs were fine and took off for campus... Unfortunately, most of the geology faculty were on vacation... The head secretarty (who was there when I was) and I had a nice chat, and the main secretarys who put Dr. Morris's root beer in his office were very amused by my bringing it... :-) So now Dr. Morris has a treat when he gets back. And I found out that he should be around when I come back up in August (to bring my sister to school!).
Later this evening I decided to go get a walk. Thunder clouds had been building all afternoon and threatening rain, but they held off until just after I left Grandma's house... Luckily, it was only sprinkles, and the evaporation helped cool me off a bit. I walked over to Target, then to a craft store, and finally Shopko before heading home. It was nice to be out and walking and window shopping. I almost found the really hard to find shorts that I like so much... a month ago, and they might have even had my size! Too bad there aren't many shopko's where I live... anyway, it sprinkled off and on while I was out walking. Coming back, one of the blocks also had sprinklers going over the sidewalk. That felt pretty good.
there was the most beautiful sunset tonight... there were multiple layers of clouds on the horizon. (grandma says they are courtesy of hurricane Emily) The sunset was visible through a horizontal crack in the clouds. it was all difuse from the rain falling from the upper layer. Just think... dark gray, difuse coral pink, bright coral pink, dark gray... Too bad I didn't have Jeffrey's camera with me! :-)
It hit 100 today in Provo... 102 up in Salt Lake. My friends up at the Y were saying it isn't usually this hot this early in the summer... Boy am I glad that most buildings are air conditioned here...
anyway, tomorrow I'm going up to SLC in the evening for a SCS meetup (online stamping forum). I'm pretty excited!
TTFN!
