Apr. 18th, 2006 04:52 pmWe got home last night. Load out went pretty well this year. The way cool pawtawskis took a bit more to the storage units before the load out than last year and we had more people to help with the loading/unloading of the trucks. We finished unloading our truck before 6 pm and had the unit locked somewhere around 6:30. Then Cheryl took us all out to pizza! yea!
Anywho. It was a fun con. A busy con. I don't remember a lot of it... :-) I didn't get #1 in volunteer hours again, but I did get #4 and another free membership to next year (haha... that's so I can spend another con volunteering...). This year I floated between 4 different departments: IT, Registration, Tech, and Stage management. 5 if you count transportation on Monday... 6 if you count the data entry I did for the volunteer coordinator on Sunday morning.
I had fun with all the departments. I got to setup and take down computers for IT. I'm a mini-geek! I even got the stealth wizzards ribbon (the word impressed but didn't get silvered). So I was the ghost wizzard (IT/tech). I was also the Guest of Honor (GOH) stage manager. I was over all of Lois McMaster Bujold's panels and readings. I also did quite a few of Donnato Gianccola's panels. Both were way cool people, and I enjoyed every minute of every panel I went to. I SO can't wait for October when Lois McMaster Bujold's new novel comes out. She left us on a clifhanger and I want to know what happens next! I was so impressed by Donnato's generosity. Every single panel he was on had a stack of signed prints that he was giving away. He also gave out a few children's books (of which I got one!). Cool art, cool guy, very cute, very generous! What a great artist GOH!
Many of the rest of my memories are running around trying to get places. There were funny conversations, some cool things in the dealers den (which I got to go into twice...), not to mention lots of friends. I made it to part of the Taipan club meeting. I didn't make it to the Give me the Brain party, but I wanted to sleep. I ate a few hot meals (once at Taco Smell, once at the coffee garden, once at Jack in the box, Josh bought us pizza once, and breakfast at Dennys). My favorite, wonderful J'wyl bought me a hot chocolate every morning! It was so wonderful! The rest of the meals were catch as catch can when I ran into staff support or flew through the green room (pros get some pretty cool food! :-) I also learned that plain instant oatmeal tastes pretty good if you add a couple packets of whatever sugar substitute is around and a couple packets of raspberry jam... :-)
Jeff was lucky enough to take today off as well. We both slept in. Jeff took a long bath while I read. I took a long bath, and then we both took another nap. I don't think we actually got up to do anything until somewhere around 2:30. it was nice.
it was also nice that I didn't end up needing to go to Portland today. I'll be going down tomorrow afternoon at some point. Both my classes will be on Thursday, and then I'll come back up Friday morning. Friday night is dinner with Deb, Saturday is just crazy... :-) Card class at my house in the morning, Taipan ed board in the Evening. Sunday is stake conference (the choir I'm in is singing) then gaming and Happy Birthday early to Mike! So if you don't see me for a few days, now you know why! :-)
anywho. got stuff to do!
