Folklife, Baby!
May. 27th, 2006 08:02 amYesterday was pretty cool, even if it did end in bus trauma...
The focus this year is Arabic culture. I'm happy. I had even already planned to make hummus to take today! Too bad it makes me want to go eat at Mr. Gyros... :-)
Anywho, yesterday I started with some Israeli dancing (catching up with an old dance friend from Portland in the process). That was a pretty cool way to start the weekend...
During the day, I wandered through the uncommon markets (and found a pair of earings that are going to be my festival purchase). I watched dancing/music performances from Thailand, North India, South India, Bengal, and Bosnia/Herzogovinnia. Oh, I definitely can't forget the Taiko drumming. Taiko drumming is very cool to watch and listen to! I caught a few minutes of one of the Arabic dance bands before I had to leave. Very nice! I also tried a Bajiya (fried lentil/chickpea paste) from the Horn of Africa restaruant. It was pretty good, even if it was a little spicy! :-)
It rained on and off yesterday. Luckily, most of the rain happened while I was inside watching performances...
I'm excited for today. Jeff and I will probably drive down and park at Gene's then take the bus from there. That makes it easy for Jeff to get to Ed board and me to show up when I'm finished for the night...
