My wonderful Jeffie helped me make a portable solid floor for my office space. My nice office chair has never been really happy rolling around on carpet. Carpet chair mats aren't made for residential carpet and inevitably crack and break within a short time of becoming one with the floor. Definitely annoying. I thought I was doomed to always have my chair rolling around on carpet.

Then, during last summer's website design process, I went to the client's house to discuss what she wanted in a website. At her computer was a wondrous home-made chair mat. It was a piece of wood that had been tiled over--A portable floor! I fell in love with the idea and decided to do the same myself one day. But you know how these things get pushed to the side.

Well, when we bought our new shelves at the beginning of the week, I didn't just throw away the stupid chest of drawers, I took it apart. I realized that the top and bottom of the chest were about the same size and, when put together, made a rectangle that fit just perfectly in between my computer desk and stamping table. Bingo! Portable floor time! David was nice enough to let us use his orbital sander to clean up the upper sides of my new floor. Then my wonderful Jeffie coated both halves with the primer and attached the two pieces. We just finished putting on (most of) the tile that picked for my floor. I have to go back and get one more tile piece because I accidentally broke one today... Oops! At least it's a section that needs cutting so isn't very wide... :-)

Anyway, my new floor has just been installed in the office. It's a treat to be at my stamp table and realize I need to check something online. I just turn around and zoom!

Yea for things to be happy about!

So, I got my class prepped for, however I haven't gotten much in the way of the rest of my packing done. I guess I should go work on that. Tomorrow we're off for Portland. While I'm sad that Jeff doesn't have a job to go back to on Tuesday, I certainly won't miss having to send him back by train on Monday (which was the original plan).

And while most of you also read Jeff's LJ and are in the know, for those who don't, he lost his job on Tuesday. We know nothing more than 'it wasn't working out.' It's odd having him home and underfoot. Not bad, just odd. And as strange as it seems to me, I don't really know how I feel about it...

Well, I really should either pack or go to bed early so I can pack in the morning. Tomorrow we'll celebrate our anniversary by going to lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, Mr. Gyro's. Mmmmm! Can't wait!
