geojlcI'm not going to Portland this Saturday after all. Mom is stressed again, so she's postponing her workshop... Oh well...
The job at the school is ...special... The child I'm working with isn't too bad, as far as low autistic kids go. She tries to pinch me, but I'm usually faster than she is. She likes to hit other kids, but we're working on that too. No, the special part is the other students. Especially the ones who like to scream a lot. and more. and again. at that special pitch that hurts me even through the ear plugs. The others seem to be able to tune him out (or at least deal with it subconciously), but I can't.
And they wonder why I won't hire permanently in that classroom. Not when I leave almost every day with a headache.... If it was anything but screaming, I would consider it. I like the school itself. I like the staff in the classroom (especially the new teacher). I like the other staff in the school. I just can't take the screaming! And then there's the fact that as a sub I can take sanity days any time I want. Or just tell them that I'm going to be out of town. And I don't have to worry about it...
Ok. I should get dinner made now. We;re having stew for dinner tomorrow, and I like to make it the night before... Too bad I'm ready to go to bed now...
