Sadness... the update I just wrote about my adventures with the computer didn't post. And don't seem to have saved... Oh well.

Suffice it to say that things were going better but are now not. It turns out XP pro wasn't loading because my processor won't work with SP2. I found a workaround to not install SP2, but that means I can't really do the updates either. I got XP pro installed, the wireless USB adaptor working and connected to the network, preferences set, and zonalarm and firefox installed.

Then I set about trying to figure out how to update the bios so I could install SP2 and all the other updates...

It didn't go so well.

Or, rather, after a lot of work, I finally was able to flash the BIOS with what I thought was the newest version. I was realy excited until I tried to restart the computer... Now the BIOS doesn't recognize the hard drive and won't remember the CD rom drive through restart.

Jeff almost got it to boot from a USB drive yesterday before he had to go to dinner with friends.

Now we either need to pull the floppy drive from Kitty or take it down to Mike's (probably what will happen).

And the computer is back in pieces because I found out that the USB slots in the front weren't working. There was a ribbon cable that was only connected on one end. (in my defense, I haven't ever seen that type of cable before) So, now it's attached, but we don't really want to put everything completely back together in case we need to attacha floppy. So it's looking sad.

But I guess I learned a good lesson! :-)

Other than that, I started my Halloween costume yesterday. It's going to be a lot more work than I thought it would be, but it's going to look cool.

Today is all about paying work, costume work, and watching Valentine so David can go to the opera with Kristin and Ieva. Depending on stuff, Jeff might see if Mike is available to look at the poor computer.

But breakfast and shower before the productive part... :-)

As if we didn't already know this... :-) Jeff took the poor shuttle down to Micheal's work (after hours) and Michael got the correct BIOS on the machine. Now I just need to put it all back together and see if A)XP still works on it, and B) if I can install SP2... :-)

But that will have to happen tomorrow.

After watching Valentine, I stopped at Big Lots and waited for Jeff to catch up with me. We found 75W equivalent CFL bulbs for only $1, so we bought a few. Then we went over to Central Market for the soy nuts Jeff has been enjoying in his lunches. While we were there, I saw signs for carving pumpkins, 3 for $10, any size. That is a fabulous deal! So now I have a huge pumpkin to carve! (and for almost as cheap as I've bought regular pumpkins in years past)

Ok. Back to my paying work. I have a report that has to get in tonight. I'd much rather be putting Kitten back together... :-) But I'll be good!
