I had a job today. A $35/hour job fixing a lady's computer. The only problem? It was in Seattle. 30 some odd miles south of me. And it snowed this morning. I spent the morning listening to alternating reports of accidents and spinouts on the freeway and weather reports saying that snow would stop and temperatures start going up mid-morning. I didn't need to be there until 12, so I decided to wait and see. About 10:30, we conferred with each other. The freeway traffic map was looking pretty good, and cars seemed to be moving well. She said that people were driving along the main street she lives by. So I told her I'd try it and call her if I needed to abort.

So I packed a blanket and some granola bars just in case I got stuck or something.

It actually wasn't too bad by the time I went out. Although I have a feeling that part of it had to do with Jeff's Saturn being a pretty decent vehicle on snow packed side streets. The freeways were wet but mostly in pretty good condition. The main streets by my house were slushy but not too bad. The worst part was where I went to the Shoreline Costco for gas. I slid around a couple of times, but not too far and not too out of control. And there mostly wasn't anyone around when I did slide. Costco gas station was practically empty. It was pretty nice that way. I didn't have any problems once I got to downtown, but again I was on pretty major streets.

The best part? I couldn't actually fix her computer. The problem connecting to the internet was a building problem and not a computer problem. They had someone either working on it or scheduled to come work on it. Since I was already there and being paid for an hour's work, I ran her anti-spyware programs and answered questions. I think it makes up for the other times when it has gone on forever and ever... She seemed happy enough.

I had no problems going home. But I think it's time for a nap. And I think that I didn't have problems because other than going to Costco I was on major roads. I would have been much worse off if I had been on small side streets. I'm glad I didn't have to do that!

With temperatures getting ready to fall again just in time to make tonight and tomorrow's commute a possible nightmare, I'm more than happy to be home.

Be safe all! (and enjoy the pretty snow while it lasts!)
