It's kind of goofy, but I keep being surprised when I walk into my room and find the floor clean... :-)
After moving the book cases in our room out to the living room, we moved our big shelf that we are using as a chest of drawers over by the bed. I can't get over how well it works there. I wonder why we didn't put it there to start with! :-)
Another reason our room is so good looking is that I'm trying another Flylady challenge: Do a load of laundry each day. At first I thought it was kind of weird because Jeff and I don't produce too much in the way of dirty clothing. My once a week routine wasn't too bad. We weren't running out of clean clothes or anything. But then, as I thought about it more, I realized that it was still 3 loads on laundry day (dark knits, whites, and towels/pants/heavy stuff). And, more often then not, the clean laundry ended up in a big pile on the floor because I wasn't up to folding it all. Besides, if I did a load a day, I could still do each load once a week.
I decided the most feasible way to do a load a day would be to pre-sort. To facilitate that, I bought a couple of pop-up laundry baskets.
I'm finding I really like this method. The loads aren't too big. A bonus of not too big loads is that I don't have to run it through the dryer twice to make sure the clothes are completely dry. It's also pretty easy to fold the load when it comes out of the dryer. No big pile of laundry on the floor! Another bonus is that I can do the towels twice a week if they are smelling a bit mildewy... And if I don't have anything to wash that day, I can have a day off! :-)
Yea, the fact I have 3 laundry baskets does take up a bit of floor space, but it's floor space that can't be taken over by clutter... :-) And I can pick up the laundry baskets and take them up to the wash. I like them lots!
And, if I ever get to a place where I have a day job, I'm thinking I can throw the clothes in the wash before bed and then the dryer in the morning.
Anyway, I end up smiling every time I walk past the bedroom and see it clean! Why didn't I learn this 25 years ago?
In other news, Jeff had an interview this morning with an outfit downtown Seattle. It would either be a temp to perm or permanent from the get go (instead of contract). He said the interview went really well and is very hopeful. Keep all of your fingers crossed! :-)
In the mean time, he'll be starting the early shift (6am-3pm) at his current job next Monday. He'll be on that shift either until he finds a new job or the department outsource happens.
