Interesting day so far

It has been interesting so far today. I woke up with a migraine about the time I had to call Jeff (since I'm not home to be the morning person, I give him a call every morning). I medicated and then managed to make it back to sleep for a good hour and a half. I got up thinking I heard Friend's mother moving around, but I must have been imagining things. So I got dressed and sat down to check email and such.
About 8:00 I started cooking the oatmeal. Once I got it going, I went in to her room and opened the blinds. She took longer than usual to get up and moving. Everything was slower today. But I got her off to "school" just in time and came home.
I have to admit that I did play some WoW this morning. I've been realizing that, even though caring for friend's mother isn't that difficult, physcally, it takes a lot of mental energy to keep track of what she's doing and keep her moving or entertained. And if we're not in the same room (like when I'm making breakfast in the morning), I need to multitask and keep an ear out while I'm doing whatever. In any case, once she's gone for the day or in bed, I tend to want to veg...
But I have been productive today. I wrote a card to a friend who isn't doing so well healthwise and to a bunch of friends at church and then I even got them out in the mail! I'm working on laundry, I watered a bunch of plants, and I even mowed the lawn. With a push mower... :-) I've decided that a push mower is the perfect way to check the size and shape of a lawn. I know that someday, when I have my own house, I want at least a small lawn area. I love the feel of grass on my bare feet and I enjoy sitting out in the grass in the sunshine. But grass isn't a good choice for a large lot because it uses a lot of water and effort for not so much return. Trees and shrubs keep the house cooler and provide more habitat for birds and critters and such. And native species are best for water and effort economy. So, I figure that the amount of grass that can easily be mowed by a push mower is just enough grass... :-) And easily means in about 10 or 15 minutes which is what I spent on the job today...
In any case, it's time to eat lunch before I do the last of my class prep for tonight. And, let me tell you, I'm getting my full daily allowance of irony today... I never thought I'd use organic milk and butter to make kraft mac and cheese! :-)
